This project aims to combat cholera and improve health for vulnerable individuals in Yemen by distributing water purification and hygiene kits designed and supported by GLOBALMEDIC CANADA. It includes logistics, training, and robust monitoring, with a significant in-kind contribution and cash funding to support operations.
The primary problem this project addresses is the severe lack of access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation in Yemen, particularly in Taiz, which has led to recurrent and widespread outbreaks of waterborne diseases, most notably cholera. This crisis is exacerbated by ongoing conflict, damaged infrastructure, and limited healthcare capacity, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations.
This project solves the problem by providing 2,000 water purification and hygiene kits (Family Emergency Kits designed and supported by GLOBALMEDIC CANADA ) to vulnerable families, coupled with training on safe water practices and hygiene. This directly addresses the lack of safe water and promotes cholera prevention, enhancing community resilience.
The project's long-term impact includes sustained access to safe water, reduced incidence of waterborne diseases, improved community health and hygiene practices, and enhanced resilience against future public health crises, fostering a healthier and more self-reliant population.
