Dear Supporter,
Mery Christmas from the Rhinos of Karongwe, GVI Limpopo and the GVI Charitable Trust.
Unfortunately, it's a happy message for a rather somber cause. More Rhinos have been poached this year than in years previous in South Africa; a shocking 1116. Of these 750 were in Kruger National Park, next to Karongwe reserve. More arrests have been made this year than ever before, however this is not slowing the rate of poaching down.
As such, your donations will be as important as ever for 2015. This year, we've successfully started kitting out the anti-poaching team. Your donations helped to purchase a special vehicle for patrols, an Icom UHF Telemetry Receiver to be able to track better and strobe lighting for the Anti-Poaching vehicles.
Moving forward, all these will be put to good use. On the ground there’s no single solution to the problem and really any step that will get in the poachers way, make them hesitate, slow them down, prevent them from setting out on even one night of bounty-hunting in the bush, is worth taking. All of the land owners, staff and any members of the conservation community are contributing by getting out on patrol at any hour of day or night, as randomly as possible, just making their presence felt and being as conspicuous as possible.
Thank you for your support this year. This is only possible because of your donations.
Here is to a better year for the Rhinos.
All the best
