By Melania C. Lopez-Castro | Project leader
Since our last report, many good things happened. In March, we had our training workshop, repaired our oldest ATV and outboard engine, and got a new ATV! Our field technicians went to their respective beaches and got their equipment ready.
Our team began their surveys during the first week of April and is doing excellent job recording females and their nests, despite a few mechanical problems with our ATVs. You will be happy to know that, by the end of May, they have recorded 580 hawksbill nests, 12 green turtle nests, and three loggerhead nests. Of these, 94.11% remained in situ, safely unperturbed.
The hatching season has not started, but it is around the corner. Please stay tuned for our following report to hear about how many baby sea turtles you helped us protect. In the meantime, please help us advocate our project with your peers; you are our best representatives and can convince them to join our quest. Remember that World sea turtle day is June 16th, and it is the perfect occasion to bring us up in your conversation.
Best regards,
The Pronatura team.
