This project will provide 2,500 primary and secondary school students in rural areas of Takeo Province with essential, grade-specific learning kits, including textbooks, notebooks, pens, and pencils. By addressing the financial barriers to education, this initiative aims to improve school attendance, reduce dropout rates, and critically, minimize the risk of child labor exploitation, trafficking, and unsafe migration. This project will empower children for a brighter and safer future.
Poverty in rural Takeo forces families to prioritize survival, often at the expense of children's education. While school is free, costs like $40/year for supplies are a huge burden. In 2021, 13.5% of primary-age children were out of school, a sharp rise (American Univ., 2023). This increases child labor risks. 4.4% of Cambodian children aged 5-17 are already employed (ILO/UNICEF, 2021). Limited school access leaves kids vulnerable to exploitation, trafficking, and dangerous migration to cities.
This project provides 2,500 Takeo students with the learning kits: textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils, and more. This eliminates the financial barrier, ensuring school is accessible to all. With supplies in hand, students attend classes consistently, reducing the need to work. By enabling education, we safeguard children from labor exploitation, trafficking, and risky migration. This will boost their confidence, lowers dropout rates, and fosters a safer, more supportive learning environment.
Learning kits will boost grades and cut dropouts for 2,500 Takeo students. Removing costs lets families choose education over child labor, safeguarding kids from trafficking and migration. Better education means better jobs, stronger economies, and resilient communities. Students gain skills, knowledge, and hope, creating a lasting impact on the province.
