This project supports vulnerable local and Indigenous communities in Eastern DR Congo by strengthening community media and human rights reporting. Through training, equipment, and storytelling, MEDIAKIVU helps amplify silenced voices, defend land rights, and raise awareness on environmental justice in Goma and Bukavu. Donations fund journalists, radio programs, and safe reporting tools.
In Eastern DR Congo, Indigenous and local communities face land grabbing, conflict, and environmental destruction but lack access to independent media. Journalists operate with limited tools and high personal risk. Many stories go untold, leaving communities invisible and excluded from decisions affecting their lives. Without strong community media, human rights abuses continue in silence.
This project strengthens community media by training Indigenous journalists, providing equipment, and producing radio programs focused on human rights and environmental justice. MEDIAKIVU supports safe reporting, amplifies local voices, and connects communities with decision-makers. With better tools and skills, reporters can document abuses, inform the public, and spark action.
Over time, stronger community media builds informed, resilient communities that can defend their rights. Indigenous voices gain visibility, influencing policies and protecting land and culture. This project contributes to long-term social justice, environmental protection, and democratic participation across Eastern DR Congo.
