The second surge of coronavirus continues to worsen the struggles of the underserved at a faster pace compared to last year. Ground reports also suggest that one of the main, emerging worries during this second wave is the increasing number of children being affected by the virus. We at CRY, Child Rights and You, along with our project partners have assessed the situation and created an emergency plan to address the immediate health, nutrition and safety needs of children and their families.
Our country is dealing with the biggest health crisis of our lifetime. Here are the issues that the underserved are struggling with: Lack of preventive equipment delaying the detection and thus control of COVID-19, lack of protective gear for frontline healthcare workers, risk of acute malnutrition due to unmet basic nutritional requirements, lack of hygiene kits for adolescent girls, lack of awareness on the importance of vaccinations and testing to name a few.
-Distribution of essentials like oximeters and thermal scanners among villages, public health centers to ensure immediate detection of COVID symptoms -Providing protective gear like masks and sanitizers to frontline healthcare workers -Distribution of sanitary pads and soaps to enable adolescent girls that last for 3 months -Providing dry ration kits to households that include cereal, pulses, spices, oil, sugar, salt, potatoes and soy (serves 5 members for 30 days)
Raising awareness on the importance of testing and vaccination to protect communities from COVID-19 in the long term by using effective communication through Whatsapp, IVRS, helpline numbers and posters.
