Protect 1800 people on Kokwa Island from Malaria

I take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all well -wishers who have contributed towards Kokwa community.  Community in Kokwa Island deserves to be supported by all means and we are happy for those who have considered supporting them in various ways.  We are happy to report that the County Government has embarked on completion of the dispensary, at the moment it has been roofed and plastered and they are doing final internal finishes.  The next stage will be stocking and staffing for it to be operational the community rate the County Government pace as very slow and feel that the process is taking too long.

  Necofa and other well-wishers have been supporting the volunteer nurse by providing monthly allowances but the contract is now over and at the moment not in a position to pay the nurse.  Currently the dispensary is closed and the community is being faced by a very serious problem but we hope the issue will be solved soon.  The volunteer nurse reported that cases of water borne diseases have been high and this is caused by use of raw water lake.  Since the area is very rocky, the community has very few latrines and most of them use bushes along the lake shore as the latrines and when it rains it’s drained into the lake resulting into increase of water borne diseases.  This is another intervention that we feel that Kokwa community need to be sensitized on and supported to dig pit latrines for good hygiene and their health. 

Malaria cases have reduced after the community learnt the importance of using mosquito nets and early this year they received mosquito nets from World Health Organization (WHO) and we have been contributing some mosquito nets with donors’ contribution.  On behalf of the Kokwa community we welcome all our well-wishers and potential donors to extend their support to the community as we continue to improve their health status.  Thank you very much.
