Protect 1800 people on Kokwa Island from Malaria

By Lucy Mathennge | Project Assistant

Kokwa dispensary construction has not been progressing on very well despite the slow pace as it has been.   There have been conflicts between County government and the office of the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).  Initially, Kokwa dispensary project was funded through Constituency Development Fund (CDF) but they did not fully implemente the project when the County Government came in and offered to construct a dispensary for the Kokwa community they did not want to continue with the already constructed part by the CDF and instead opted to start their own construction they started the foundation work and CDF gave up and stopped their construction.  At the moment there are 2 unfinished structures at Kokwa but the county government is still continuing with the project.    They held meeting with the community and promised that they will construct the dispensary to its completion.  The community is now optimistic after being in the darkness for a long time.  They hope that the county government will keep the words and speed up the process.  We have continued working with community and supporting families with very serious health problems mainly referred to other hospitals for further medication.  We hope for the best very soon as we realize that many people are really struggling and suffering from their unhealthy status which cannot be solved at the current temporary dispensary.  The area has been very dry and the community is struggling to provide food for their families we hope the situation will improve soon to the benefit of the community.  We thank all those who have contributed to the succes of this community this far.  We urge them to consider supporting the community even further for them to improve their living standards.
