Protect 1800 people on Kokwa Island from Malaria

By Lucy Mathenge | Project Assistant

We are happy to report the good news that Kokwa clinic is now under construction and the community is very happy for these developments and quick action of their leaders. The construction work has already started and the location of the clinic is quite good as the whole community will access the facility with ease and it will not be affected by flooding of the lake. In early September this year more well-wishers have heard the cry of this poor community and they have tried to support in various ways. School girls form the Island received sanitary towels donated through our partners in USA. They were very happy as these sanitary towels can be recycled without affecting the health of the girls. We conducted training on how to use them and how to clean them to ensure that their hygiene improved and not affected by the recycled pads. We have conducted follow –ups with the girls to evaluate how useful the pads are in terms of comfort, hygiene and availability. The girls have reported that the pads are very useful and they are now sure that they will have them during time of needs without incurring expenses. We thank all our well wishers for this very important support.
We are also trying to conduct trainings within the community on health and hygiene in order to reduce some obvious health cases. This has been taken positively and the community is willing to participate in many more and they are actually practicing after the trainings.
We have continued to support 2 patients who had been referred to Nakuru general hospital for further medication. We have been providing transport from the Island to Nakuru and also covering the medical bills. The patients are still going for appointments and we are optimistic the situation will improve. We have been doing all this with support from well wishers and our partner. We thank them for their generous support to our needy communities.
