Ibrahim's story

By Joe Samuel | Individual Giving Manager

In 2022, devastating and destructive flooding in Pakistan left 33 million people struggling to rebuild their lives. Our staff mobilized a rapid response at the time of the flooding to provide essential health, hygiene and food supplies.

To help local communities recover, you kindly donated to fund flood diversion walls and livelihood support. Today, we'd like to shareIbrahim's story

Ibrahim's story: A journey of revival

Ibrahim* is a polio survivor and had been supporting his family through his tailoring and sewing machine repair business. However, the devastating flood of 2022 changed everything, destroying his home and washing away his livelihood.

"I still recall the day when the water entered our rooms, I couldn't walk. My spouse and father helped me reach safety. We spent many days without food, battling severe mosquito attacks. Stagnant water in our courtyard hindered our access to protect our belongings. But I never lost hope and continued to struggle,"

After the immediate aftermath of the floods, Ibrahim attended Relief International business training sessions where he learned valuable skills in business setup, marketing and pricing. Soon after, he received a cash grant, providing him with a lifeline to rebuild his business.

Since then, Ibrahim's business flourished once more. And the new flood division walls built with help from RI gives Ibrahim the confidence in the future.

"The flood diversion wall has been a savior for me and my community. Its presence ensures that we can rebuild our lives without the constant fear of future floods. With this sense of security, I could invest confidently in my business and provide stability for my family, strengthening our resilience in the face of adversity."

Today, Ibrahim is able to provide for his family's needs and has expanded his services to repair household appliances. Through hard work and determination, Ibrahim has overcome huge adversity and built a better future for himself and his loved ones.

Alongside local communities and donors, together we've achieved so much:

  • Enterprise Development: Trained 3,325 people to equip them with invaluable business skills
  • Hand pumps:  30 new hand pumps installed and 50 rehabilitated to help provide clean water
  • Flood protection/Irrigation walls: 3 protection walls constructed protecting 23,750 people, helping to secure their future
  • Hygiene: 130 Sessions given and 3,220 hygiene kits distributed

Thank you for your support.
