Final projects for 2022

Since August, we have been developing the final projects of all the clubs. We are planning Closing Ceremonies for all students of DoorofAwarenessinDecember,duringwhichtheywilldisplaytheirprojects/products.Thesearethe productseachclubisfocusingon:

CraftClub:Studentsaremakingquillingjewelry,paintedpots,feltenvelopesandpuppets,crochetglovesandcoasters.

ElectronicClub:Theyaremoreinterestedintinkeringandmakingtoysandmodelsfromwastematerial,suchas‘wired’spidersandtinrobotsandmodelsofsolar-poweredhouses.

ArtsClub:Thesestudentswillexhibittheirpaintingsandartworkintheirschoolsforfellowstudents,teachers,andparents.

ComputerClub:ThestudentsaredesigninginvitationcardsfortheClosingCeremonyandarealsoworkingondevelopinganewwebsiteforProjectsontheGo.

PhotographyClub:Theyarecapturingphotographsandediting them for their schools' final display.Duringtheprocess,thegirlsfine-tuntheircamerahandlingandoperatingskills.

 

Startups:

Previously, each club planned and designed a business through which they could earn some basic income.Nextthey planned how to markettheirproducts.Asgirlsdonotusesocial media much,thebusinessmentoraskedthemtodesignabillboardoraflyertoselltheirproductsandservices.

Whilerunningabusiness,onememberfromeachteammusttaketheleadinrepresentingtheirstartupondifferentplatforms.Thementorasked thegirlsineachclubtovoteforonegirlthey think can confidently and effectively represent their business.In caseofatie,thebusinessmentoraskedbothstudentstoconvincetheirteammembersbysharingwhytheyshouldvoteforher.Theelectionprocesshelpedthemexperiencethedemocraticprocesseswhilerunninganorganizationand builttheirconfidenceandpublicspeakingskills.

Togetherwiththeirteamleaders,eachclubwasaskedtopresenttheirstartupstoeachotherandthementor.The besttwobusinessesfromeachschoolwereshortlistedtopresenttheirstartupsandproductsattheClosingCeremonies.Thesestartupswereshortlisted: ZamalCards(ComputerClub),AdventurePhotography(PhotographyClub),M3Electronics(ElectronicsClub),andHandyMandyCrafts(CraftClub).

Challenges

Thegirlsarenowusingalltheskillstheyhavelearnedinprevioussessionstomaketheirproducts.Theystruggledwithrevisingandrecallingtheskillsandtheconceptstheyhadlearnedintheinitialsessions.Forexample,inthecraftclub,theylearnedtocrochet,butwhentheywereaskedagaintomakeproductsusingthesameskill,theytooksometimetorecall.Inthebusinessclub, theylearnedaboutpricingtheirproductsandhadtodosomedivisions.Thementorhadtoexplaintheprocessofdivisiontothemagain.Despitesomestruggles,thestudentscan finally use theiracademicandvocational/technicalskillstomaketheirproductsandsellthemtopotentialandfuturecustomers.

NewSchool

WearegladtosharethataGovernmentSchoolforGirls,adoptedbyCareFoundation,hasjoinedourProjectsontheGobus.The girlsinthisschoolbelongtothe ruralareaontheoutskirtsofLahoreandarekeenandeagertolearntheseskills.Similarclubsotherthanthebusinessclubhavebeenofferedtothem.Theinitialfocusisondevelopingtheirvocationalandtechnicalskills. Only those students interestedintakingitupasabusinesswiththeirfriendsorfamilywillbetrainedasentrepreneurs.

WayForward

Weareplanningclosingceremoniesinallschools.ThebestworkfromtheseeventswillbepresentedtoalargeraudienceduringaFinalArtsExhibitionoftheArtsClubstudents.Aftertheseevents,wewillhaveafeedbacksessionwithteachers and the management of each school.Theirrecommendationswillbeusedtoimprove the program further.FromJanuary2023,weplan to engage more schools so that more girls can be given vocational and technical training andbusinessdevelopmentmentorship.This wouldempowerthemtobemoreindependentandsupporttheirfamilies.
