An empty belly is no foundation for a day of learning. That’s why funds from August’s Project of the Month are going toward a program distributing healthy and nutritious meals to Indigenous children attending Lantuyang and Adong Elementary Schools on Mindoro Island of the Philippines.
Previously, limited access to nutritious food and poverty have left many Mangyan Indigenous children susceptible to illness and developmental challenges. Through Fight Malnutrition in Filipino Children, Kito Odv will provide balanced meals six days a week for 333 children attending Lantuyang Elementary School and Adong Mangyan School. Two local mothers will help prepare the meals, with the project providing the food, ingredients, and supplies they need.
“What makes us most proud is that we don't just provide food—we work alongside local communities to build lasting solutions that improve children's health, empower families, and create opportunities for a healthier and more sustainable future,” shared Kito President Paola Vecchiato.
That commitment to working alongside communities is reflected in the people who make this project possible. The teachers and staff at the schools are local Filipino educators, community members, and volunteers, including people from Mangyan Indigenous communities. They help coordinate the work, ensuring that programs reflect the language, culture, and needs of the children and families they serve.
Thank you for ensuring that more children have the nutritious food they need to learn, grow, and thrive—and for standing alongside the local communities working to build a healthier future.
Until next time,
Yami + Raghuvendra
