The scope of the project is the distribution of healthy and nutritious meals to indigenous children attending Lantuyang Elementary School and Adong Mangyan School on Mindoro Island, in the Philippines. Children in this area of the island are severely affected by malnutrition, which leads to developmental and health issues and hinders their capacity to learn and their access to education.
Filipino children are severely malnourished due to poverty, access to poor quality food and lack of basic health education in parents. Given their condition, they are often struck by illnesses which prevents them from regularly going to school, and many of them suffer from developmental and growth issues. In addition, the high malnutrition rate is one of the major causes of child mortality in the Country.
Kito Odv is going to appoint two mothers to kitchen duties and will provide food, ingredients and supplies to cook with. We will distribute balanced and nutritious meals 6 days a week for one year to 333 children in Lantuyang Elementary School and Adong Elementary School, on Mindoro Island. The project will incentivate families to send their children to school, who in return will suffer from fewer health issues given the correct caloric intake our meals will provide.
The project will benefit 333 children, improving their health conditions, reducing the sickness rate and providing them with the possibility to attend school and make fewer absences. Furthermore, it will educate children, 2 chosen mothers and teachers to a better and healthier nutrition, teaching them how to put together healthy meals for a nourishing and correct caloric intake.
