Some of the most important acts of care aren't meant for today.
They're meant for the children who will inherit healthier soil. For families who will harvest fruit years from now. For communities that will be safer from erosion and landslides because someone chose to plant a tree.
This July, we're supporting a project that's helping communities in northern Rwanda restore both the landscape and local livelihoods.
After successfully planting 40,000 trees, the Rwanda Women and Youth Development Organization (RWAYDAVO) is launching the next phase of its work: planting and caring for 50,000 more trees across six rural communities in Rwanda's Rulindo District.
Rwanda continues to face severe deforestation driven by the need for food, fuel, medicine, and timber. In a country defined by steep hills and seasonal rains, the loss of trees has contributed to soil erosion, landslides, and declining biodiversity.
This project brings together students, teachers, local leaders, and families to plant climate-appropriate tree species while building environmental knowledge that will last for generations. Alongside restoring the landscape, additional fruit-bearing trees will also provide new sources of food and income for households.
As founder Dr. Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana shared, "I always smile when I describe the pride on their faces the first time they see the little trees they planted starting to grow strong. These young people aren't just planting trees; they're becoming leaders who teach their friends and families about conservation."
Thank you for continuing to invest in projects like these.
Until next time,
