Dear Project of the Month Club Member,
June’s featured Project of the Month is helping the people of Myanmar reclaim freedom and equality in the aftermath of a violent military coup in February 2021 that flung the country into deep human rights violations.
Thousands of people living in Myanmar have taken to the streets for protest, to which the police responded by killing at least 1,300 protestors and bystanders and detaining more than 10,000 people. The 600,000 Rohingya remaining in Myanmar (many were displaced and killed by the acts of genocide in 2017) are denied access to adequate food, health care, livelihoods, and education.
We Women Foundation is helping local people and groups continue protesting military rule by providing lunch boxes, safety gear packages, first aid training, media gear, and more for demonstrators, journalists, and civil servants. They believe that women should be part of the writing of a new constitution and history for Myanmar to create a society where equality is ensured for all ethnicities and genders.
When Ursula Cats learned that We Women Foundation had been selected as the June POMC, they shared that these funds will help give hope, strength, and the resources to keep on fighting for freedom and gender equality in Myanmar. “There are few resources to support women on the ground to organize and share their work. This donation will make a big ripple effect possible, so that more women on the ground can stand up and join the cause,” Ursula said.

Thank you for your commitment to a better world!
