Dear Project of the Month Club Member,

We hope you had a great summer! We finished off our summer with our Little by Little Campaign, where we encourage all our nonprofit partners to activate their donor base and show that when everyone gives a little, it goes a long way! With $60,000 in matching and $8,000 in bonus prizes from GlobalGiving, our partners raised more than $260,000 to fund their innovative projects around the world.

Additionally, you and the other 549 club members collectively raised $21,141 for the month of August in support of Project Maji Foundation, a GlobalGiving partner based in sub-Saharan Africa, and their project Sustainable Solar-Powered Water Kiosks in Ghana. Your support allowed them to continue combating the issue of water scarcity through sustainable efforts, as well as help improve local families’ economic situations by reducing the time needed for fetching water.

This month, your Project of the Month Club donation will support Fundacion Minga Valpo, a Chilean organization whose goal is to promote sustainable human development as they link people, communities, and institutions to provide support for vulnerable children and youth, all the while protecting and preserving the environment.

Organization Director Carolina Moraes Zambrano wanted to pass along this message of gratitude to you and the rest of the Project of the Month Club supporters:

“We want to express our profound gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in our team. Thanks to your support, we have been able to improve this beautiful project and further our sincere commitment to developing better spaces for children in situations of social vulnerability.

This September, your donation will support their Give Children a Safer and Happier Childhood project. By giving to this project, you are supporting their children’s community center in Valparaiso, Chilethe Ludoteca Mercedas well as the supervised programming and workshops there in the areas of cooking, gardening, music, and more. The Ludoteca Merced is fulfilling a great need in Valparaiso, as children are oftentimes put at risk as a result of poverty, violence, and too much time on the streets.

Supporting more than 50 different kids a year, Fundacion Minga Valpo takes a different approach than conventional behavior correction organizations and aims to mitigate potential risk behaviors before they start. They achieve this goal by creating a space for children to learn, play, and find love and belonging—with volunteers and professionals always there for support.

Director Zambrano shares how your gift will help them expand their mission in the future:

We are planning to recruit extra teachers and expand the availability of workshops, so we can reach more children. We would also like to renovate the Ludoteca with solar panels, a rainwater harvesting system, and a greenhouse for food production. We want to make it an example for the community and teach children from all around Valparaiso about how to care for our environment.

You can read all about their recent work in their latest project report. And if you want to see the ongoing impact of your donation this month, you can subscribe to their updates by visiting their GlobalGiving project page!

Thank you again for your extraordinary support! We can’t wait to tell you where your generosity is heading in October.

Warm wishes,

Alix Guerrier

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
