We're really happy to be in touch again! After some troubles with the platform, we're finally here to share with you all the work that we've done the last months.

In October, after 4 months in lockdown we were able to restart our activities with all the sanitary measures. Last year was really hard for everybody, so recreational activities became really important. That's why we decided to start with some hiking around the hills of Valparaiso once a week. This was a great time to connect with the kids, their families and our team, while we enjoy nature and make some exercise.

In addition, we restart the music workshop in our facilities with a lot of new instruments, so we can experiment with new sounds, talents and learnings.
Also we start with a new workshop "Taller semillitas", where the kids can express their feelings through art and fairy tales.

Despite all difficulties, 2020 was a good year because we were able to give a safe space to a lot of kids. That make us very proud and happy.
This is possible thanks to all the teachers and our kids. Fantasy and hope can be found all around our facilities, so needed at this time.

Thanks to you again, and we'll be in touch to tell you more about all our activities.

Be safe!

Dear community, hoping that you are doing well, we want to share with you some activities that we have carried out at La Ludoteca since the last time we wrote to you.

In Chile, the confinement situation continues, so we have persisted in holding the Music Workshop online, but aware that there were some children who couldn’t connect to a computer due to lack of resources, we began a successful campaign where we managed to donate 26 operative computers and cell phones that were given to children who needed them, both to carry out their school work and to attend activities that have been carried out at La Ludoteca.

Also, to commemorate Children's Day, we took a tour of Cerro Merced sharing songs, laughter, gifts and much much love with all the pertinent health precautions.

As you can see, despite the circumstances, La Ludoteca hasn’t stopped delivering smiles and love to the little ones. And we can't wait to meet face to face again.

Thank you very much for making this possible.
Stay safe!

Dear community, first of all, we hope you are safe and sound. We share with you the activities that we have carried out since the last time we wrote to you.

In February, before life as we knew changed, we launched the book: "LudoLibro: Historias de la casa de barro" (LudoBook: Stories from the mud house), which was created by the children of the Ludoteca, which reflects what this space means to them. Together we premiered a short film: "Ludo Movie", the first short film ever made by us, it was published on Facebook: Ludoteca Merced. We carried out all this in the Cultural Park and it was broadcast through the Portales radio, in the city of Valparaíso. It was a day full of laughter, stories, and games, where the boys and girls were able to share their experiences about the Ludoteca and the impact it has on their lives.

As soon as the quarantine for the Covid-19 started, we began to work with the children from their homes, which is why we have promoted different ways to stay close to the children and this is how we generated a YouTube channel, called LudoRandom (https: // www.youtube.com/channel/UCJ2YbqLk9ZM2wNCA45PlRJw) where we share workshops, talks, games, activity books and riddles with the community, so they can develop from their homes. Also for this scenario, we communicate from our network tips on health, hygiene, and activities, called Ludotips.

And finally, we start May with a very special workshop for each one of the children of the Ludoteca community. ”Taller en Música en Colores” (Color Music Workshop). Which has the objective that children can learn to play a musical instrument, through colors and games, in a participatory, creative, and practical way.

All these activities have a direct and positive effect on each child and would not be possible without your support. We are very grateful for having you and for your trust in this noble project.

We really hope you stay safe. Thank you.

Dear community, after several months of demonstrations in the country, we are sad to say that the political and social situation in Chile has not presented improvements. This continues to generate some complications for the Ludoteca, due to the security scenario that we are facing in the city of Valparaíso, where demonstrations are being generated almost at all times, so that the children attending the Ludoteca of another hill that Cerro Merced may have difficulty arriving, which also generates the absence of Chilean and / or foreign volunteers.

Despite these difficulties, the Ludoteca in charge of his team, headed by Professor Loreto, opens the doors day by day from Monday to Friday, between 4:00 pm and 7:30 pm, to receive the children. Thus, since October, multiple and diverse workshops have been held for both children and the community of Cerro Merced in Valparaíso. One of the most important was the Ludorestaurant, where children prepare delicious dishes for the community. Also, two meetings were held for the protection of children, exactly on November 15 and 29, where they worked in collaboration with other organizations in the Region where there was the creation of a community radio, puppet games, theater, Craft workshop, circus, rap and free games, by the Ludoteca Team and other volunteers outside the organization.

In addition, clown workshops, workshops for the development of games and experimental toys, the monthly recreational activity that this time was destined outside the Region, exactly in the center of creation of La Ligua, the workshop of games and creative processes and as It is usual, on the last Friday of each time, the birthday celebration was held for all children born between October and December.

It is important to mention that under the current social and environmental context, considering the fires that have affected the community, a training session was held for the community on emergency pedagogy under the guidelines of Waldorf education.

Your donations allow us to continue contributing to the emional development and integrating values such as generosity, self-control, respect and care of the environment in children and the community that attends the Ludoteca Merced. We are grateful for your collaboration that has allowed us to continue helping the children of Valparaíso. We appreciate considering telling your friends and family about our project by sharing the link to our GlobalGiving project on social media, or just bring us up in conversation. We’d love to hear the story about why you’ve picked our project, and we think your friends would too.

Thank you!

Dear community, in this beginning of spring there have been a series of activities with children of the Ludoteca, one of the main events was the Spring Festival, a party organized by the people of the neighborhood, where the children of the Ludoteca with Colorful costumes and their own scenery, participated with a theatre play created by themselves.

During this time, we have also carried out activities of birthday celebrations, educational outings to parks and museums in the city, and various workshops that strengthen creative skills, such as painting, cooking, living, construction classes, among others.

It is also known that our country is currently in a social and political crisis that began on Friday, October 18 of this year. Every day there are various demonstrations in our city, where violence and repression by the military forces is received by the population, infringing upon the human rights of people. The children who come to the Ludoteca every day come from a vulnerable and often violent environment. And added to the context, this violence intensifies being now, inside and outside their homes.

All that has been said above has caused the usual operation of the Ludoteca to be modified to the national contingency. The schedule has had to change since public schools and gardens are not working, accessibility and frequency to public transport has been affected and the State of emergency does not allow free movement of people after 18:00 hours. Thus transforming the Ludoteca into a key space that welcomes children, generates spaces for containment and crisis management and is concerned with continuing with its fundamental recreational activities for the development of children in the community, addressing this situation of the best possible way. These days we have started the mornings with moments of conversation and reflection through drawing and painting, in order to enhance art as an expression tool. However, the resources necessary to continue our work have been affected. The teachers have had access and supply difficulties. The volunteers who usually show up have not been able to arrive due to the risk that this implies, with the Ludoteca being in a critical sector of the city of Valparaíso.

It is important for us as a foundation to make this problem visible and obtain the resources to continue supporting the children who need our assistance, and now even more the security and autonomy that the Ludoteca offers them.
