In Nigeria, many parents are not informed about the importance of HPV Vaccinations for their girl children. The Dihya Foundation successfully piloted its HPV awareness vaccination initiative aimed at protecting adolescent girls from cervical cancer. The project targeted girls aged 9–14 years, providing age-appropriate education on HPV, cervical cancer prevention, and the benefits of vaccination to schools in underserved areas. The purpose of this awareness was to sensitize parents through their girl children to ensure their girls get vaccinated against HPV, and to also facilitate visits to local health centers where these vaccines can be administered to the girls
Through school and community outreach activities,30 girls received health education. The sessions also engaged parents, teachers, and community stakeholders to address misconceptions and encourage vaccine acceptance.
The project increased awareness of cervical cancer prevention and empowered girls and their families to make informed health decisions.
