In August, the DIHYA Foundation initiated another program aimed at empowering girls with knowledge about their reproductive health and their rights in this regard. Our primary activity was conducted at the Set-a-part Children Camp. Over the month of August, we made visits to the summer camp for girls to ensure we touched every aspect of reproductive health for girls ages 8-18. Introduction:
This report provides an overview of the activities carried out by the DIHYA Foundation during the last quarter, spanning from August to October 2023. Throughout this period, our focus remained on promoting the reproductive health and rights of girls, particularly in underserved communities, as well as raising awareness about breast cancer.
August 2023: Reproductive Over 120 girls from different backgrounds benefited from this project.
Key activities during this month included:
• Organizing sessions to educate girls about reproductive health.
• Distributing sanitary aids and sex-ed booklets to the girls, promoting hygiene and health.
• Discussing the rights of girls concerning their reproductive health.
• Encouraging open conversations about sensitive topics related to their well-being.
September 2023: Grassroots Projects
During September, we continued our efforts to educate girls about their reproductive health and rights. This month’s activities included:
• Visiting secondary schools to reach a wider audience.
• Conducting informative sessions on reproductive health, hygiene, and rights.
• Providing resources and materials to support girls’ reproductive health, including sanitary products, educational materials, and access to healthcare resources.
October 2023: Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In October, the DIHYA Foundation pivoted its focus to raise awareness about breast cancer. Our collaborative efforts with the Lagelu Local Government Health Authority were instrumental in creating a significant impact. Key activities during this month included:
• Conducting breast cancer awareness campaigns in different markets.
• Engaging with the community to sensitize them about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.
• Partnering with health extension workers provided by the Lagelu Health Authority to disseminate critical information.
• Organizing a free breast cancer screening exercise at a Major mall in Ibadan metropolis, in collaboration with Sunrise Pharmacy.
• Encouraging women to undergo free screening for the early detection of breast cancer by checking for symptoms.
Conclusion:
The DIHYA Foundation’s activities in the last quarter were marked by our unwavering commitment to promoting reproductive health and rights for girls/women and raising awareness about breast cancer in the community. We believe that by educating and empowering girls about their reproductive health and advocating for early detection of breast cancer, we are contributing to the betterment of society. We express our gratitude to our partners, supporters, and volunteers for their dedication and hard work in making these initiatives successful. Our commitment to these causes remains strong as we continue our mission to create a more informed and healthier community.
