AMA is the front door of Hearts of Gold Foundation in Cuenca, Ecuador. We welcome vulnerable women, children, older adults and people with disabilities, evaluate each family's needs, and offer psychological therapy, clothing and legal guidance, then connect them to our food, jobs and children's programs so they can heal and move forward.
In Cuenca, Ecuador, families living in poverty carry trauma, illness and isolation with nowhere to turn. Most are single mothers, children and older adults who cannot pay for therapy, medicines or legal advice, and public services have long wait times. Without a place that listens and connects them to help, one crisis, such as illness, violence or job loss, can push a whole family deeper into poverty.
We assess each family's needs and respond with psychological therapy, medical referrals, essential medicines, clothing, household items, nutrition training and legal aid. Then we refer them to our programs for jobs, education and food.
AMA is the front door of Hearts of Gold. We welcome each family, assess their emotional, physical, legal and basic needs, and build a plan together. Our psychologist, now supervising two Universidad del Azuay interns, leads individual and family therapy. We provide medicines, clothing, nutrition training, legal and medical support, and activities for older adults. Stable families are referred to D'Ellas, All Children Deserve to Dream and Corazones que Alimentan.
