Thank you for your generous contributions to the AIM-Epe Project in Epe Community, Lagos, Nigeria. Because of your kindness, families in Epe who have struggled for years with unreliable power and unsafe water are now one step closer to experiencing the dignity, safety, and wellbeing they deserve.
Community Assessment
Our team conducted a prequalification visit in collaboration with the Community Development Council (CDC) Chairman, Community Development Authorities (CDA) representatives, and local residents. This exercise assessed current water access and sanitation practices, identified optimal sites for our WASH interventions in the two target communities, and ensured community input drives all decisions.
Key Findings
Data from the exercise revealed that 89% of households rely on untreated water sources, increasing the risks of waterborne diseases. We also noted the absence of formal water governance structures like WASH Committees (WASHCOMs) or Facility Management Teams (FMTs), prompting discussions with leaders to support their capacity to establish these governance structures at both the CDC and project levels. This step is critical to foster long-term community ownership and sustainability.
Next Steps
Your support enables us to address all the identified gaps (including refurbishing existing boreholes, installing solar-powered water systems, establishing WASHCOMs, and setting up strong community management frameworks). We are building resilient access to safe water, reducing health risks, and empowering communities for enduring impact. Thank you for believing in our work and making this possible. We will keep you updated!
