Afro-Tech Girls wants to raise the sum of $5,000 and disburse it to 20 female STEM undergraduates. The ideal recipient is a high performing female student with limited financial capacity to continue studying.
Beyond their desire to learn, Nigerian girls are often faced with societal norms restricting them from studying STEM related degrees. STEM courses are widely seen as the remit of men as women are not expected to engage in rigorous learning or careers which may take their attention away from their families. It isn't very popular for these girls to have support, even financially, in pursuing their dreams of a STEM career. In addition, STEM related courses are often the most expensive
This project will focus on supporting 20 female undergraduate students who are in universities and polytechnics across Nigeria. This is a follow up from the Afro-Tech Girls Project 100 for 10 scholarship in which we raised N100,000 NGN (~$250) for 10 girls. That project provided funds for 16 girls across Nigeria in 2021. We will be continuing on in our drive to support the increase of the pipeline of female STEM graduates across Nigeria reaching at least 20 well deserving girls in 2022
Support educational goals & school fees for high performing girls studying STEM courses Encourage growth in the pipeline of female graduates in the STEM industry and in turn supporting the diversity of talent in Nigeria Increase the opportunity for economic growth of the nation
