The Scratch Day was celabrated arround the world on may 24th. That thursday the first Scratch Intercollegiate tournament was held between Superatec students in the community of Antímano in Caracas.
Scratch is a visual programming language developed by the MIT Lab Tab. Its main characteristic is that it allows the development of mental abilities by learning programming without having deep knowledge about the code. Its characteristics linked to the easy understanding of computational thinking have made it very widespread today in the education of children, adolescents and adults. This programming language is used for didactic purposes to create animations in a simple way and to serve as introduction more advanced programming content.
26 boys and girls, ages 15 who completed the Computational Thinking Course in the Superatec Digital Center, participated in the Hello World Tournament where they demonstrated their computational thinking skills through the Scratch tool creating interactive games through algorithms in 45 minutes.
The organizers were Superatec, Dategeek (a computer programming company based in Venezuela) and the Educational Innovation Center of the Catholic University who served as juries of the competition.Three teams were formed and evaluated for their creativity, Innovation for work, and the use of the Scratch tool.
The Mega Digital Room of Telefonica Foundation was the perfect spot for the tournament to take place. We are very grateful to have opportunity to held this important event with our allies.
