This project is part of continuous professional dance training offered to approximately 120 local students and future instructors annually, free of charge, to study and practice the fundamentals and application of Silvestre Dance Technique in the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. It aims to sustain continuous development and professionalization of local residents in situation of social and economic vulnerability, and amplify community empowerment through dance education.
There are; 1) lack of financial resources for local residents to pursue dance/art education and professionalization, 2) lack of employment opportunities for students to seek a sustainable profession in dance, especially for those who come from disadvantaged communities, 3) lack of educational programs which consider history and ancestral memories into body expressions, which would in turn encourage self-realization and community development vis-a-vis social and economic difficulties.
This project will; 1) provide professionalization to local students for free, who would otherwise not afford benefiting from such opportunity, 2) qualify the participants to become arts & cultural educators in their communities and expand their professional opportunities through the association's related projects, 3) provide a space of learning and discovery connecting with ancestral memories and cultural heritages, thus empowering diverse body languages and promote socio-cultural inclusivity.
The project will serve as a model of sustainable art, cultural and physical education by; 1) enabling socio-economic transformation via continuous professionalization of local students, 2) reaching more communities in the vicinity of Salvador and beyond, where art education may not be affordable nor offered to low-income residents, and 3) benefiting wider local population in enhancing their long-term health through body awareness in movement.
