Our project focuses on health. We give a village woman knowledge and basic tools and training to take responsibility for her own health, then that of her family's and then the health of the community.
We have lost sight of the fact investing in health is far more efficacious than managing disease with its attendant costs, physical financial and emotional. Allopathy does not have answers for everything. We are also losing vital information which our great grand mothers and grand mothers took so much for granted, handing it down to the women in the family; 50 years ahead, we need to have women well equipped to deal with break down of infrastructure and large scale effects of global warming.
We deal with intangibles like wellness. We empower a woman with knowledge to take charge of her body, take pro-active steps towards well-being, manage basic health issues, remind her of her grand -mother's home remedies, support her with herbal/medicinal plants, inform her about nutrition, alternate healing systems like homeopathy, acupressure cranio-sacral therapy, reiki, quantum touch and ancient healing systems like Yoga, Ayurveda and Siddha, We teach her to make herbal medicines and tisanes.
A well -informed woman equals a well-managed family. Previously isolated women at home find friends and a new supporting community During the 3-month training period. They develop the confidence to start discussing their health issues and family problems in a supportive environment. Our Health team ends up as friends and confidantes. They find that the problems they face, issues they are struggling with are shared by many women world over. A sense of community and bonding takes place.
