Dear Friends,
We are delighted to tell you that Luciana, a 5-year-old girl who arrived from Yucatán when she was 2 years old with a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, had to stay in Mexico City to continue her treatment.
During those difficult years, AMANC became a second home for Luciana and her parents. Her father, Mr Wilbert, puts it simply: "AMANC gave us a place with a roof over our heads, a bed to sleep in and a plate of food".
For children undergoing cancer treatment, maintaining proper nutrition can be difficult, especially when the treatment affects their appetite and their ability to eat.
That is why our Nutrition Programme supports families along this journey, providing healthy meals at our residence, food parcels, nutritional supplements where necessary, and guidance so that carers can continue to look after their children at home.
Today, Luciana is embarking on a new pase as “surveillance”. After years of treatment, her family can finally look to the future with hope. Her father describes this moment with a mixture of happiness and uncertainty, typical of any new beginning.
This is what your support makes possible. Behind every meal, every food parcel and every nutritional consultation, there is a child fighting to recover and a family trying to stay strong.
