Suni-Ridge is a wildlife sanctuary conserving sensitive, irreplaceable sand forest habitat for endangered species. Due to the hard Lockdown in South Africa, there has been a sudden surge in wildlife poaching. Five animals have just been cruelly snared - 85 snares were recovered in one night. There is an urgent need for increased security during this time. The Sanctuary's income has come to a complete standstill due to COVID -19 and urgent funds are desperately needed to keep our wildlife safe.
The consequence of the worldwide outbreak of Covid-19 is that there are no visitors to the Sanctuary and so income has come to a standstill. In addition, poaching has dramatically increased threatening the wildlife that Suni-Ridge has rehabilitated and continues to conserve. Your donation can assist in increasing security patrols and veterinary fees desperately needed at this time.
More rangers and equipment are needed to perform anti-poaching patrols to increase law enforcement presence and visibility in high-risk areas. Your valuable support would also assist with vital veterinary work needed to treat the animals that survived the recent snaring and to allow ongoing rehabilitation work to continue during this difficult time.
Over the past 28 years, Suni-Ridge has been committed to rehabilitating and protecting an important biodiverse remnant of Sand Forest which supports numerous threatened species. The current times are unprecedented, and the Sanctuary is at risk of losing animals that it has worked so hard to protect. By increasing security presence in the reserve, the cruel practice of snaring wild animals can be mitigated. Your contribution today will hugely help us to protect the welfare of important wildlife.
