Help Build Another Bathroom!
By John Roccanova | Volunteer Fundraiser

Dear Donors,
Thanks again for your support of Prevent Period Poverty. The benefits of having bathrooms, health classes and menstrual products provided by this program are evident in better attendance and academic achievement. Two bathrooms have been built, and the foundation is soon to be laid for another at Kisoko Girls’ Primary and Junior Secondary School. Fundraising is key to this construction project. The cost estimate is $14,000 for a bathroom with 4 toilets, sinks and showers. A biodigester septic tank will provide an eco-friendly disposal system.
All donations to Grow Against Poverty to complete this project are greatly appreciated. Please click “GIVE NOW” to make a contribution.
Sincerely,

Prevent Period Poverty Helps Girls Graduate
By John Roccanova | Volunteer Fundraiser

Dear Donors,
In only a year, Prevent Period Poverty has already made a difference. Bathrooms were built and menstrual health classes and products provided at St. Joseph’s Musoko and Our Lady of Mercy Secondary Schools. Students in Kenya take national examinations to qualify for acceptance to universities. In 2024 17% of the students at these schools qualified. This went up to 27% in 2025 when the Prevent Period Poverty program began.
Susan, a senior, commented:
“Thanks to Grow Against Poverty for building a bathroom at our school as part of the Prevent Period Poverty program. My attendance has improved, my average has gone up to B+ and I qualified for University. I want to attend to study medicine and then come back to my community to help others.”
Thanks for your support of this valuable program. Grow Against Poverty would like to add one school this year to the program at a cost of $14,000. The hope is to add at least one bathroom a year at other schools for the following 4 years.
Regards,
John Roccanova

A Note from the Principal

Hello Supporters,
Grow Against Poverty's Prevent Period Poverty program recently completed a bathroom at Our Lady of Mercy Girls Secondary School. We received a note from the principal:
"Our Lady of Mercy Girls High School in Busia has taken a vital step toward ending period poverty through support from Grow Against Poverty (GAP) Kenya. The school recently received a dedicated changing room, offering privacy, running water, and proper disposal facilities for menstrual hygiene management. This safe space empowers students to manage their periods with dignity, reducing absenteeism and boosting academic performance. By addressing the stigma surrounding menstruation, the initiative promotes confidence and equal opportunities for all girls. The partnership demonstrates how community-driven solutions can create lasting impacts in health, education, and gender equality.
The girls at Our Lady of Mercy Girls Secondary School still need access to menstrual products and a safe, reliable water supply. We will appreciate any further assistance."
Madam D, School Principal, September 28, 2025
Thanks for your donations that made this project possible.
