As part of the recreational activities, the Family Care Program (PAF) organized a summer camp for boys and girls, adolescents and mothers. From August 3rd to 5th families were able to have a change in their routines and spend some time in a safe, natural environment; away from everyday monotony in the water park Las Estacas, located in the state of Morelos, Mexico.
Within the types of care offered to families, Pro-Niños provided leisure and recreational activities that contribute to the development of emotional and social skills as well as increasing self-confidence and cooperation, fomenting the strengthening of emotional relationships between household members.
During the three days camp, educators sought to encourage the participants to get along, respect and cooperate with each other, besides constantly fostering curiosity in children and adolescents, promoting dialogue and teamwork through playful activities in an open and safe space.
The mothers actively participated in the camp; managing and preparing the food. The results of their work led to recognition that favors the promotion of empowerment of women in families and their training as leaders within their community.
The development of parenting skills by parents and / or caregivers is essential in the work we do with families. This helps to strengthen support networks, to improve their living conditions and to identify scenarios that put at risk their children connecting with the street and to be aware of the alternatives that can be generated to prevent them from living on the street.
The camp was the perfect setting for the 28 boys and girls and adolescents as well as for the mothers who attended and were able to apply emotional, social and cognitive skills they have been developing during their time working with the PAF team.
Thanks to your support Pro-Niños is currently working with 20 families, permitting us to work with 52 boys and girls and adolescents and 26 parents and caregivers.
