Your continued generous support to the project titled “Prevent GBV & Female Genital Mutilation in Ethiopia” is making a tangible and deeply meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable women and children. Because of your commitment, MHO has been able to sustain and expand holistic sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) services—ensuring that survivors not only receive immediate protection but also regain dignity, stability, and hope. Your support has directly contributed to protecting at-risk women and girls from violence and exploitation, while strengthening our ability to deliver survivor-centered care.
Currently, MHO operates four rehabilitation centers—two in Addis Ababa and two in Jimma and Bahir Dar—serving 130 destitute mothers and 250 children. These centers provide comprehensive, life-changing services including safe shelter, nutritious meals, medical care, clothing, psychosocial counseling, and reintegration support. Since our last update, the project has supported 28 new survivors of SGBV and rape with essential post-rape care, trauma counseling, case management, and legal assistance. Despite limited funding, every contribution has been used efficiently to ensure immediate and lasting impact, complemented by strong volunteer engagement and partnerships through GlobalGiving.
One powerful example women pictures aer among a young woman and girls who arrived a tMHO center after experiencing severe violence and displacement. Through your support, they received urgent medical care, trauma counseling, and ongoing psychosocial support. Today, they are participating in vocational training and rebuilding her independence with renewed confidence. Stories this women reflect the broader impact of your generosity—restoring hope where it was once lost.
In addition to direct services, the project continues to invest in prevention through community awareness and advocacy efforts addressing GBV and harmful practices such as female genital mutilation. Survivors are also being empowered through life skills and vocational training, helping them transition to self-reliance. While funding levels remain modest, your support—combined with volunteerism—continues to drive meaningful, sustainable change. Thank you for standing with us in protecting and empowering women and girls in Ethiopia.
Note: All pictured women ,girls and children in this report are the primary and real beneficiaries of MHO’s intervention, directly representing the lives that have been supported and transformed through this program and your continued generosity
