Prevent GBV&Female Genital Mutilation in Ethiopia

With your generous support, Meseret Humanitarian Organization (MHO) continues its commitment to protecting vulnerable and homeless women and girls in Ethiopia from Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The project remains focused on reducing exposure to violence, exploitation, harmful practices, and neglect while promoting safety, dignity, awareness, and access to appropriate support.

Progress During the Reporting Period

During this reporting period, funding available under the project was limited, and therefore MHO was unable to implement a full range of planned project activities. Rather than overstating achievements, MHO recognizes that the limited resources significantly constrained the scale and intensity of implementation.

Despite these limitations, the project has remained active as part of MHO’s broader protection and humanitarian work. The organization continued to monitor the needs of vulnerable women and girls and maintain its commitment to preventing GBV and FGM among communities facing severe social and economic vulnerabilities.

Key Results and Learning

Although no major stand-alone activities were implemented during this reporting period, the project has helped maintain MHO’s capacity to respond to protection concerns when resources become available. The experience also demonstrates the importance of predictable and sustained funding for prevention initiatives, particularly those addressing GBV and FGM, where meaningful change requires continuous community engagement, awareness creation, referral support, and follow-up.

The limited implementation period has provided an important lesson: small contributions can make a meaningful difference, but sustained funding is essential to achieve broader and measurable protection outcomes.

Looking Ahead

MHO remains committed to strengthening this project and expanding support for vulnerable women and girls as additional resources become available. Future implementation will prioritize GBV and FGM prevention awareness, community engagement, protection and referral support, and targeted assistance for women and girls at heightened risk.
