Literacy classes for migrant laborers children

By Usha Bhaskar | Program Manager

Activities Taken-up in the last quarter:

Suriya and Madhan are two brothers; they discontinued their studies due to split family parenting and forced to work in a mechanic shop. Though Suriya and Madhan are bright and very promising students the circumstances pushed them to discontinue their studies and work. When the representatives of Learning Links Foundation came to know about this, they joined Suriya and Madhan in the literacy batches and started teaching them literacy skills asked to continue their education. These students were taken to the nearby Govt School for knowing the possibility to get admission. These students are likely to rejoin in formal schooling by coming academic year.

Special trainings for migrant laborer’s children:

In order to make effective utilization of summer vacation special literacy batches are organized for the children of migrant laborers. Good response is observed from these children due to summer vacation and a large group of children are joining in these batches. Special training is given to the children to fill the gaps in Math, Science and English to enable them to rejoin the regular stream of education.

Apart of literacy skills these children are also trained on basics of digital literacy to motivate them to learn more in the field of computers.

Eye check up for 1870 children

An eye check up campaign was organized for the students of Govt schools at Gurgaon – India. A preliminary level eye screening test was conducted for 1 870 students from 3 different schools. This initiation motivated the students to focus on health concerns.  A database was prepared to identify the children with visionary problems and advised for further level of check-up and treatments.

Support the special children in their studies:

Visually challenged students of Queen Mary’s College Chennai - India wrote their semester exams with the help of the volunteers mobilized by Learning Links Foundation. The involvement of the participants in helping these students depicted their interest towards the community. This initiative paved a way to help these disabled students.
