For over 20 years, Bethel has supported children with visual impairments. Our "Love is Blind Beyond Borders" program focuses on early detection to prevent avoidable blindness, especially in disadvantaged communities. Early intervention is key, as 80% of visual impairments can be treated or prevented if detected early (WHO). Untreated vision problems can hinder educational and developmental progress, making timely care essential for children's potential.
Imagine a child unknowingly losing their sight, struggling in silence, and facing the heartbreaking reality of blindness that could have been prevented. In many areas, screenings don't even exist, leaving children vulnerable. According to the World Health Organization, 80% of visual impairments can be prevented or treated if detected early. Without early intervention, children face not only educational setbacks but the terrifying risk of permanent blindness.
This project will solve the problem by providing early detection and intervention for children at risk of blindness. In the Philippines, India, Nicaragua, and the U.S., we've screened thousands of children and seen the positive effects of early intervention. By using devices like the Spot Vision Device and partnering with local clinics, we identify impairments early and provide follow-up care. With your support, we can expand our reach and continue breaking the cycle of disadvantage.
Early vision screening and intervention can transform children's futures. When caught early, vision issues are treatable, allowing kids to succeed in school and life. Families avoid financial strain from untreated conditions, while communities see healthier, more educated individuals. Proven successful in our past efforts, this approach has long-term effects-boosting productivity, improving GDP, and driving economic growth. Investing in children's vision care ensures brighter futures for all.
