PowerOn is built on the foundation that digital rights are human rights, and our mission is to bridge the digital gap in the LGBTQ+ community. We provide technology, resources for internet access, and connection to vital information, research, and advocacy to both LGBTQ+ organizations and individual community members across the United States. We empower the LGBTQ+ community to transform their lives through technology.
Surviving, let alone thriving, in today's society requires connection. Access to tech means access to housing, jobs, education, healthcare, community support, education, and more. Tech devices are often out of reach for many LGBTQ+ individuals: 40% of youth facing homelessness in America are LGBTQ+, and 22% of the U.S. LGBTQ+ population lives in poverty.
PowerOn provides life-changing and often life-saving technology to the most vulnerable segments of the LGBTQ+ community. Through the PowerOn Individual Tech Grant, community members can apply for laptops, smartphones, and tablets. The PowerOn Community Tech Grant provides devices to community organizations serving their local LGBTQ+ population. PowerOn devices have been used to obtain stable housing, find employment, enroll in school, access telehealth, communicate with case workers, and more.
PowerOn will provide thousands of LGBTQ+ community members with access to devices that they can use to connect with resources which will directly improve their quality of life and ability to keep up and participate in an ever-digitizing world. This access directly translates to lower rates of homelessness, increased economic stability, improved mental health, and bridging the digital divide for the LGBTQ+ community.
