We recently conducted a community outreach visit in Maralal, Samburu County, where 35 widows were supported through a holistic dignity and empowerment initiative. Many of the women face economic hardship and limited access to essential hygiene products.
During the visit, each widow received a dignity kit containing critical personal care items to support their health, confidence, and overall well-being. In addition to the distribution, the Foundation facilitated a structured talk on menstrual hygiene management. The session focused on safe practices, breaking stigma around menstruation, and promoting reproductive health awareness.
The discussion created a safe and respectful environment where the women could openly ask questions, share experiences, and gain practical knowledge that strengthens their health and dignity. To promote long-term sustainability, each widow also received a start-up capital gift to support small income-generating activities such as petty trade, livestock keeping, and beadwork.
This financial boost is expected to help stabilize household income and enhance economic independence. Through this integrated approach—combining dignity support, health education, and economic empowerment, we continues to restore hope and strengthen resilience among vulnerable women in Samburu.
