This project will support 200 widows in Kibera, Homa Bay, and Samburu this Christmas by providing gift packs for immediate relief and seed capital to help them start or strengthen small businesses creating a pathway from dependence to dignity.
Across Kenya, widows in underserved communities often face deep economic hardship and social exclusion. Many struggle to meet their daily needs, provide for their children, or rebuild their lives after loss. In places like Kibera, Homa Bay, and Samburu, widows are among the most vulnerable - often living on less than $2 a day, without access to sustainable livelihoods or emotional support.
During the Christmas season, each widow will receive a gift pack with food, clothing, and essentials bringing relief and joy to families who often go without during the holidays. Beyond this short-term support, each woman will also receive seed capital and business mentorship to start or strengthen a small income-generating activity.
Through financial literacy and entrepreneurship training, widows will receive the support needed for the them to build sustainable livelihoods.Over time, widows who receive business start-up support and mentorship will not only sustain themselves but also create employment opportunities and support networks for others. As household income and stability increase, children are more likely to stay in school, access better nutrition, and break the cycle of poverty.
