Dear GlobalGiving community,
Once again, we are coming to you to present our work. In order to keep you informed about the progress of our project to accompany farmers in the Bogota region, our agro-ecology experts are on the field every week to organize the first visits. This first cycle is soon completed, since we have already met 23 farmers out of the 25 registered.
Our objective is to establish a solid characterization of each exploitation and to propose a work plan to all the farmers, in order to accompany them in their journey towards an agriculture that is increasingly respectful of the soil and living beings.
Our work plan is based on the development of good agricultural practices, which are in fact the list of methods to be applied for the good management of a productive unit. Examples include soil and water management, clear identification of risks and the establishment of a traceability register of crops, seeds and fertilizer application.
This project is anchored in time: we hope that by April 2023, all the farmers we follow will be able to receive a certification called "Participatory Guarantee System", which aims to provide farmers with a proof of the good quality of their products and the respect of the values of agroecology in each stage of the cultivation.
The SPG certificate which is currently implemented by the Network of Agroecological Markets of Bogota-Region, is characterized by the inclusion of a large number of actors involved in the supply chain (farmers, agroecological markets, restaurants, students and consumers) and is based on trust, transparency, associative networks and knowledge sharing.

Once again, we want to thank our GlobalGiving Community and all of our donors for their support and help.
Stay tuned for our next reports and actions on the field!
