Trees store cabon and produce oxygen to stabilize weather patterns globally. 0Crude oil burning in Niger Delta Nigeria is widespread and environmentalpp degradation is greatest due to severe oil pollution that releases carbon dioxide which causes rising temperatures One barrel of crude oil when burnt produces 468kg of carbon dioxide.Trees will soak up the carbon dioxide that would have trapped heat inthe atmospere. 70,000 trees will be planted starting with Lagos and Delta states.
Over the years, the level of environmental degradation due to oil pollution and concomitant climate pollution was ignored untill COP21 Paris Agreement called for more global climate action .Millions of barrels of crude oil have been burnt openly in oil producing areas of Nigeria with built-up of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere causing extrene weather and rising temperatures. Crude oil bunkering is pervasive in the region causing climate change and warming.
Nigeria will become less carbonized, with lower environmental degradation, deforestation,soil erosion,imroved air quality and enhanced biodiversity ,reduce extreme weather conditions and rising temperatures. Trees will capture and absorb Carbon dioxide which would have trapped heat in the atmosphere .The project will begin to restore and regenerate the environment. The project will improve agriculture and lower greenhouse gases emissions in Nigeria .
The restoration of the ecosystems demands raising awareness, people power,time and money .As the degraded environment begins to regenerate,and new trees grow,the trees will provide fresh air and pure water,rainfall that dampens the rising temperatures and improve soil quality, protection of habitat and biodiversity The restoring environment will bring peace and hope,to diverse ethnic communities..The tree planting wil generate jobs for the youths who will plant and maintain them.
