The British comedian Jeremy Hardy's life was lived by the Jewish principle of tikkun olam - repairing the world. High on his repair list were the occupied and refugee Palestinians who he supported in benefit after benefit, including doing gigs for Jewish anti-occupation groups. In the spirit of tikkun olam, our Jewish charity, the British Shalom-Salaam Trust, plans to celebrate life, renewal and hope for a just peace by planting trees in Jeremy's memory.
A devastated olive grove in the Gush Etzion area of Occupied Palestine is the focus of this project - we aim to raise enough money to buy olive tree saplings to replant the grove which in turn makes sustainable agriculture for local Palestinian farmers.
By providing new growth we will provide nutrition and an income stream.
This will help provide self-sufficiency for local people
