Schools in Bondo, Kenya need greener, healthier environments as communities face increasing climate and environmental challenges. Many schools in Bondo Sub-County face inadequate tree cover and limited practical environmental education, leaving pupils and communities vulnerable to climate change and environmental degradation. The project will plant and nurture 5,000 trees in 25 schools while engaging pupils in environmental learning. About 5,000 pupils and teachers will benefit from greener school environments, shade, climate awareness and, in the long term, fruit trees that provide nutritious food.
The project will provide and plant 5,000 suitable tree seedlings in 25 schools, supported by site preparation, protection, watering and follow-up to improve survival. VFN will establish or strengthen school environmental clubs and provide practical environmental education to pupils and teachers. Schools will take responsibility for nurturing the trees, creating greener learning spaces, shade and future fruit benefits while building lasting climate and environmental awareness.
In the long term, the project will help address declining tree cover, environmental degradation, limited shade and inadequate climate awareness in Bondo Sub-County. About 5,000 pupils and teachers in 25 schools will directly benefit, while their families and surrounding communities will benefit indirectly as children share environmental knowledge and practices at home.
