Summary

Meet Felicia - a young girl living in a remote, rural community in South Africa - Her prospects to succeed and prosper are limited. Just imagine if access to the internet allowed her to develop skills needed for a better life. Imagine, with a quality education, if she could inspire conservation efforts to protect her natural heritage. Are you ready to make this happen? We are. Join us to deliver education through solar internet to Felicia and pals in 3 schools in Greater Kruger National Park.

Challenge

Felicia has never seen an elephant in the wild. Felicia doesn't know that every species - from the bee to the elephant - plays an important and unique role in the ecosystem. Felicia doesn't know that 35k elephants are poached yearly and their extinction will spell havoc for the environment. Educating Felicia, through the power of the internet, about the wildlife around her and her natural heritage could dramatically improve the future prospects for herself, her community and the wildlife too.

Solution

Simply installing solar internet in Felicia's school is not enough. We'll collaborate with our partners, The Black Mambas, an all-female anti-poaching team, who are already using traditional teaching methods to educate Felicia and her pals on community-led conservation. Access to online learning resources will revolutionise their course delivery, scope and impact. Felicia is a change-maker of tomorrow but needs the right tools today to educate and inspire others in her community, and beyond.

Long-Term Impact

By equipping Felicia, and many others, with the tools to lift herself out of the cycle of poverty she is trapped in, gives her opportunities to build a better life. Fast forward, Felicia is now an educated young woman, with knowledge, passion and self-belief that she can be the change she wants to see in the world. This will have a ripple effect through her family and the community. She will teach them and a wider audience about the benefits of protecting the wildlife and the natural landscape.
