Dear Donors,
December 3, 2014 marked the 10th Edition of Children’s Day in Siem Reap. Some of our Global Giving donors were able to join us for the event, but for those of you who couldn’t be here, we’ve put together a little recap from the field, prepared by professional Angkor Photo Workshop alumni Yong Yen Nie.
Despite a typhoon off the coast, and heavy rains in Siem Reap threatening to cancel the event, the scare did not dampen our spirits, and we had a Children’s Day filled with fun and laughter!
Children’s Day is an integral part of Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops attended by the public. It is a day celebrating the achievements of the Anjali Photo Workshops, which always offers a rare and honest glimpse at the intimate lives of everyday Cambodians. The day includes the 50 participants of the workshops, and all the children from Anjali House – a non-profit organization created by Angkor Photo Association, which provides meals, healthcare and education to under-privileged Cambodian children in Siem Reap.
The street outside Shinta Mani Resort, which hosted our event in downtown Siem Reap, was transformed into a carnival by Phare Cambodian Circus, who supported Children’s Day by giving a free performance that wowed the crowd. The performers showed off their daring acrobatics and amusing antics, to the great amusement of children and adults alike.
After that, the kids were whisked into Shinta Mani Resort for a party with food and drinks before the moment they were all waiting for finally arrived: the screening of the results of the Anjali Children’s Workshop. At the end of it all, the children were given a print of their work produced during the week-long workshop, and the tutors and children bid their farewells until next year.
As we begin preparing for the 11th Edition, we would like to thank all our donors for their generous support. Please find below a selection of photographs from Children’s Day.
We will be publishing the children’s photographs throughout the year here on the Global Giving website, so that you can enjoy the results of their work.
Best Wishes from the Team at Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops
