A deadly 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck Cebu Province, killing 72, injuring hundreds, and displacing more than 20,000 people. Families in Bogo, Medellin, and San Remigio are sheltering in the open, without access to food, water, or fuel. This project delivers immediate humanitarian relief - shelter, safe water, food, and hygiene kits - while supporting recovery and resilience for affected communities.
The quake destroyed homes, schools, and infrastructure across northern Cebu. Over 450,000 people have been affected, with thousands displaced and exposed to unsafe conditions. Seaports remain closed, roads are blocked, and hospitals are overwhelmed. Families face critical shortages of clean water, food, fuel, and sanitation, leaving children and elderly especially vulnerable as aftershocks continue and the country battles an already deadly monsoon and typhoon season.
Within hours of arriving in Bogo City, our team registered with the local command center to coordinate efforts and identify the most vulnerable communities. Together with in-country partners, we're now delivering urgent relief including generators and fuel, powerful enough to supply electricity for small shelters and community hubs. Family and hygiene products have been purchased and are ready for distribution in the coming days, with the aim of reaching 4,000 households.
Beyond the distribution of basic emergency supplies, this project is developing a phase II emergency education response in Bogo City with the near term goal of building resilient & sustainable classrooms to help restore school capacity and ensure that children have access to safe, secure learning environments. Your support protects children and fosters important educational continuity for them and their families following a large-scale disruption to the education system.
