This project supports the reconstruction of four elementary schools in San Francisco, Camotes Islands (Cebu, Philippines), severely damaged by the 6.9 earthquake of September 30, 2025. By rebuilding safe classrooms and restoring essential facilities, the project will enable hundreds of children to return to school safely and continue their education.
The earthquake destroyed several buildings in the San Francisco area, including the four schools that Kito ODV plans to rehabilitate. The school facilities suffered severe structural damage, making them unsafe and unusable for children. As a result, teaching can no longer take place inside the buildings, and classes are now held outdoors under makeshift tents that often do not provide adequate protection from rain or adverse weather conditions.
Kito ODV will support the reconstruction and structural rehabilitation of four damaged elementary schools in San Francisco. The intervention will address a range of structural issues identified across the school buildings, such as cracks in concrete and partition walls, damage to columns and essential facilities. Planned activities include the retrofitting and renovation of repairable buildings, as well as the demolition and reconstruction of those deemed unsafe.
In the long term, the project will strengthen community resilience by restoring and improving essential school infrastructure. Safer, more durable buildings will ensure continuous access to education and reduce disruption from future disasters. Rehabilitated schools will also serve as safe community spaces, supporting social cohesion, including by functioning as emergency shelters in the event of disasters, and contributing to more stable and inclusive local development.
