AAI assisting Earthquake families left homeless

Dear Friends,

All hands are on deck to assist with the recent devastating 7.8 earthquake in the Mindanao region of the Philippines. Thousands of Filipino families are homeless.

On the outer islands, schools across Mindanao were damaged or destroyed. We have received reports from AAI-sponsored schools and have begun or completed repairs at some of the less-damaged schools. As you know, AAI works to return communities to a sense of normalcy after disasters strike. We are providing the necessary supplies and essentials to help rebuild. The communities are pulling together and have helped clean and clear debris from the classrooms and libraries, drying them and making them ready for students to return. Some students have returned to classes.

On the mainland of Mindanao, this is a different story. Many areas are not yet accessible, and families are living by the roadside and in shelters after the collapse of their homes.  Asia America Initiative and our network of local partner organizations, staffed mostly by volunteers, provide medicines, shelter materials, clean water, and food support to needy families and individual disaster survivors.

According to the United Nations and other global agencies, the Philippines is the country most affected by natural disasters in the world. Asia America Initiative works with communities in remote villages that are difficult to reach. Despite adverse conditions, we continue to assist thousands of families -- Christians, Muslims, and Indigenous tribal peoples -- who suffer in desperate conditions. We have been active in more than six provinces across the three major regions of the 7,000-island Philippine archipelago, where hundreds of different cultures thrive, and myriad languages and dialects are spoken.

Thank you for your ongoing contributions. If you would like to continue your support or become a long-term sponsor with a monthly donation, please click the link below. Your support helps families recover from typhoons and natural disasters.
