Dear Friends,
According to the United Nations and other global agencies, the Philippines is the country most affected by natural disasters. Thoughout the first quarter of 2023, Asia America Initiative and our network of local partner organizations, staffed mostly by volunteers from all walks of life, have provided medicines, shelter materials, clean water and food support to needy families and individual disaster survivors. We specialize in coordinaing caravans of trucks provided by private companies, military and police, as well as "good samaritans" from neghboring urban areas. We target communities in remote villages who are difficult to reach. Despite adverse conditions, we continue to assist thousands of families -- Christians, Muslims and Indigenous tribal peoples -- who suffer under deprived and desperate conditions. We have been active in more than six provinces located in the three major regions of the island archipelago where dozens of different cultures thrive and scores of various languages are spoken.
Our goal in 2023 was to assist 30,000 adults, elderly men and women, and children. Thanks to the generosity of our donors we have surpassed that amount ten-fold.
Through the essence of our shared compassion, we have become an extended family. "We have been truly blessed to have such a committed group of volunteers and local partners," says our community liaison coordinator, Ms. Lourdes, in Cebu. "The impact on communities to see the sincere joy of our teams assures them that they are not forgotten. The simple acts of kindness are healing for them on all levels."
May 2023 begins the annual rainy season in the Philippines. Our volunteers are preparing for ongoing operations and response for any new crises. We intend to distribute donated medical, clean water, food, hygiene, educational supplies and to perform other post-trauma services.
Thank you for your ongoing contributions. If you would like to continue your support, or are interested in becoming a long-term sponsor with a monthly donation, please click the link below.
