Project Report | Dec 29, 2022
Relief for families following floods from Non-stop Typhoons and Cyclones

By Albert Santoli | Project Leader

Dear Friends of AAI,

The 2002 Rainy Season in the Philippines has devastated numerous communities and farming areas. Asia Ameica Initiative and our partner organizations have been providing food, water, health aid and other emergency relief to thousands of families displaced by non-stop storms. Among these crises, fast moving Typhoon Karding hit the Philippines between Sep 24 and 26, 2022 causing widespread devastation in the central regions. Typhoon Paeng then crossed the islands of the Philippines between Oct 27 and Oct 30, 2022, making 6 landfalls in its path causing massive flooding. Even though these storms were characterized as Severe Tropical Storms, the affects were much more than predicted.

Asia America Initiative was able to take immediate action through our partners in Quezon, Bulacan, Davao, and Misamis who were still working with local families following an earlier typhoon. Our network had pre-positioned warehouse loads of supplies to be distributed after the storms had passed.

Rice, clean water, and hygiene supplies were directed toward the areas north and south of the Manila Metro area. Relief Centers were set up to contact families and to give them the supplies they needed.

We have learned the skills of rapid response to natural disasters because the Philippines leads the world in natural calamities. Annual typhoons deliver destruction, displacing thousands of families across the island nation. Asia America Initiative and local partners have built our capabilities by conducting emergency and long-term relief including food and water to thousands of families facing many challenges. We apply lessons learned from two decades of relief programs. We provide shelter materials, hygiene supplies, medicines, and ongoing post-trauma services. We also provide clean water support to disaster survivors, especially in remote villages that are difficult to reach. We extend a lifeline through partnerships with courageous volunteers and professionals.

"Our long-term goal," says AAI Director, Albert Santoli," is the self-sufficiency of storm survivors across the region. Our immediate goal is to keep people alive, healthy, and in a positive frame of mind with determination to build a better future."  Our GlobalGiving donors are part of our loyal and consistent international partnership.

Thank you for your ongoing contributions. If you would like to continue your support, or are interested in becoming a long-term sponsor with a monthly donation, please click the link below. Your support helps families recover from typhoons and natural disasters and provides immediate relief after disasters.
