Summary

Typhoons Gaemi (Carina) and Yagi (Enteng) hit Luzon Islands just week apart last August and September this year. Slums like Bagong Silang, dumpsite Payatas and a stretch of Commonwealth Avenue in the outskirts of Quezon City, a prime city of Metro Manila had 2,500 household destroyed mostly by floods, landslides and fire caused by electrical wire short circuits. Families are still in evacuation centers. Housing materials, food , medicines, clothing are needed to start rebuilding

Challenge

About 2,500 households got their houses furnitures, kitchen and belongings destroyed by floods and fire from typhoon Gaemi and Yagi. They are still staying in evacuation centers dependent on relief from various sectors. There is no adequate supply support to rebuild houses that most victims have to fend for themselves. Food, water, clothing and medicine relief will bridge them towards rebuilding and is just temporary. Unfortunately there are still predicted strong typhoons coming

Solution

This project will provide additional relief for the victims most of whom are still in evacuation centers and could lessen the burden of additional cost for rehabilitation. Most families would prioritize education, water and electricity expenses and the project could cover or at least contribute to disaster-borne restarting. At most, the food assistance could lessen hunger incidents that may impact on the victims health especially children and the elderly.

Long-Term Impact

Rebuilding of houses hopefully could withstand the next storm onslought. Some new housing materials could improve its resistivity to future floods. Importantly food help could avert health issues and help build physical resiliency. Mentally, victims could find support networks that could lessen their emotional stress in coping up and strengthen them for future storms. Students can continue with their studies and parents can go back to work or resume their livelihood activities.
