MOBILIZATION TOWARDS LEADERSHIP FOR WOMEN AND YOUTHS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (MOLDEV)
PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT
PROJECT TITLE:
GIVE 5000 PEOPLE BASIC HEALTH CARE IN KULAKDHANICOMMUNITY OF SHANI, LOCAL GOVERNMENT, BORNO STATE NIGERIA.
SEPTEMBER 3, 2024
PROJECT BRIEF
The rural Community of Kuladhakni, Shani Local Government of Borno State Nigeria has been without a basic health facility in its many years of existence until 2017 when MOLDEV came through with a Primary Health Care project to provide basic health services to over 5,000 inhabitants of the community and its surroundings. The project is expected to address Maternal/Child care as well as some common health challenges such as Malaria, Typhoid, Hepatitis, Hypertension and worm infestation. Based on our findings, Maternal/Child mortality rate is high due to the above mentioned health challenges. In some complicated cases, the people have to travel about 60kms to get to the nearest health facility, sometimes deaths are recorded along the way.
Lack of potable water in the community and its surroundings is a major challenge affecting the wellbeing of the inhabitants. This brought about the idea of installing a solar powered borehole to address the water need of the clinic and the community.
STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF THE PROJECT-2017 to 2019
The project design includes a standard solar powered Borehole with overhead tank to provide potable water for clinic and the community as a whole.
IMPLEMENTATION OF THE DESIGN-2019 to date
The structural designed has been implemented to lintel level. The Borehole has been drilled to water level. We are looking forward to roofing and equipping the facility for immediate use by the community.
PROGRESS RECORDED
In the quarter 1 report, you will recall that the clinic building was at the lintel level, we are pleased to share with all our supporters that the clinic has been successfully roofed. All thanks to the philanthropic effort of our Founder and Executive who funded the project from the beginning to where it is today. We also acknowledge and thank VMware Foundation for their generous donation of 100 USD towards the project. Even though we are yet to access the fund, it has reshaped our budget figure positively and the entire Kuladhakni Community is grateful for your support. We look forward to working with you continuously. Find attached the roofing pictures of the clinic.
FUNDING SOURCES
The project from the beginning has been funded by the Founder/Executive Director of MOLDEV. She paid for the, structural design and building of the structure to Lintel level and more still needs to be done to complete the project for immediate use by the community.
CHALLENGES
Inadequate funds have halted the completion of the project to date. There is need for multiple funding sources to get the needed funds for the completion of the project. The next phase will involve roofing, equipping of the facility and installation of the borehole for immediate use.
RESOURCE MOBILIZATION STRATEGIES
We have implemented some resource mobilization strategies to raise funds for the completion of the projects. These include;
FUNDRAISING/CROWDFUNDING OUTCOME
We have received a donation of 100 USD in December 2023 driven by GlobalGiving. Although we have yet to access the fund, it reshaped our project goal positively with great encouragement. The reception of our appeal to prospective donors, philanthropic individuals, and the activities of the GlobalGiving community is encouraging and we are hoping that it will eventually yield in favor of the project.
We have gotten some borehole equipment support for the clinic/community worth N3.5 Million ($4,587) from a local philanthropic donor.
The host community has also offered to carry out the installation of the Borehole without charge as their partnership support for the project. They also expressed their readiness to ensure the safety and protection of the entire project facilities for proper use.
RESOURCE NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT
The total amount needed to complete the clinic and borehole for use by the community is $104,714 (N70,000, 960 seventy million Nine hundred and sixty thousand Naira).
EXPECTED LONG TERM IMPACT
Over 5,000 people resident in the community will no longer travel long distances to access the basic primary health care services and clean water thereby improving their productivity and wellbeing as an agrarian community.
