We have no doubt witnessed many children who are rejected by their families due to their disability and abandoned to fend for themselves. Many of them are pushed to begging or sold to unscrupulous persons who abuse and exploit them, especially if they are girl children. Goal of this project is to offer a safe and dignified home to 100 such children initially. Project location: Kolar Gold Fields, a defunct gold mining town in Karnataka, India.
BENGALURU: There are 3.30 lakh children between the ages 5 and 19 with disabilities in the state. Of them, 21.6% have never received education and 15.5% attended educational institutions previously but later dropped out. These are the findings of UNESCO's State of the Education Report for India-2019 - Children with Disabilities, which was released in Bengaluru on Wednesday. There are no exact figures as to how many have no home and are on the street or where they live.
Balajothi Centre for the Disabled provides nutrition, medicine (prescribed by doctors) and healthcare to starving children. The children's mothers are trained in nutrition and child care. The mothers are also taught to share their new knowledge with their families and neighbors. Family members of many orphaned special children approach us to help provide shelter for their ward. By providing this shelter such children will have the opportunity to lead a dignified and peaceful life.
This project will provide safety, special education and skills training to 100 special children enabling them to arise out of poverty levels and will provide health and well being for themselves and their families.
